Journal Assignment #1:How Current Trends Relate to History

Peplum orignated in anicent Greece, as a Greek word for Tuinc. An Peplum is a short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a dress, jacket or top. The silhouette's is associated with the forties, fifties, and the eighties. Women wore peplum coats and dresses to draw attention to their waist and create an hourglass figure. This style has made a comeback in 2009 and now spring 2011 bring back more of a ladylike style. Over time the peplum overskirt and\or ruffle silhouette is design in different cuts and styles, the skirt underneither the overskirt/ruffle is now shorter and comes with a side split

Icon Aretha Franklin turns 70-years old today
No one can denyher impact and importance in shaping pop culture, the blend of R&B and gospel and both the Civil Rights Movement and the Women's Movement through song.

Aretha Franklin celebrated her 70th birthday last night with a swanky party at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel in NYC. With guests like Diane Sawyer, Rev. Al Sharpton, Debra Lee and Clive Davis, the group had a sit-down dinner, saw a dance performance and enjoyed a mini-conert by jazz pianist Kris Bowers.
Aretha also celebrated a new record deal.

Salvatore Ferragamo will be the exclusive sponsor of the lastest exhibition devoted to Leonardo Da Vinci, The Saint Anne Ultimate Masterpiece. The show will run at the Louvre March 29th-June35th. The exhibition celebrates Da Vinci newly restored oil on wood masterpiece. The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne, painted between 1503-1519

 Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen whose killing at the hands of a self-appointed neighborhood watchman has set off nationwide protests over race, guns and justice; Feb. 26 while walking in a gated townhouse community in a hooded sweatshirt after buying some Skittles and iced tea. He was unarmed. Martin's killer, 28-year-old George Zimmerman, has claimed self-defense and has not been charged with a crime.

• Kate Moss has been diagnosed with a nerve disorder (ulnar nerve entrapment,) that has left her temporarily paralyzed in her right arm. She is expected to make a full recovery over the next few months, though the model is currently having difficulty performing everyday tasks (like taking a lid off a jar.) A friend close to Moss says “her hand is not paralysed or injured in any permanent way.” Get well soon, Kate!

Whitney Houston 48, was found dead under the bath water by her bodyguard in luxury suite number 434 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday afternoon. Paramedics battled to revive the singer but she was pronounced dead at 3.55pm, hours before she had been due to perform at a pre-Grammys party at the same hotel.
